Staten Islander starts ‘healing’ crystal jewelry business - SILive.com

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- After Melissa Randazzo was diagnosed with stage IV endometriosis and lost both of her fallopian tubes, doctors said her only chance of conceiving a child was through in vitro fertilization (IVF).

“My husband and I began the process. I had various surgeries, treatments, hundreds of needles and different medications, and yet the IVF wasn’t working,” she recalled.

She remembered learning about the healing power of crystals during her yoga teacher training. That’s when she embarked on researching the topic.

“So I researched and found that rose quartz and moonstone are excellent for fertility. I bought the stones, made myself a bracelet and we became pregnant during my next round of IVF -- thanks to science, God and the positive energy of crystals,” she said.

While she was pregnant, she started telling other people dealing with infertility about her luck with crystals.

“They all wanted a bracelet, and then their friends wanted them, and so on. At that time, I was just doing it for fun,” said Randazzo.

Then her son was born almost three months premature. He spent several weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Richmond University Medical Center, West Brighton.

Again, she turned to crystals for healing.

“When my son was finally released from the hospital I continued to use crystals (under his bed for sleeping, milk production for breastfeeding, for colic, etc). So I decided I wanted to share these amazing properties with the rest of the world. I also wanted them to be wearable,” she said.

That’s when Randazzo began making all types of healing jewelry. She opened an Etsy business and named it in honor of her son: True Warrior Jewelry.

WHAT IS HEALING JEWELRY?

Randazzo said she believes natural crystals have healing properties. “These properties can be either mental, physical, emotional or spiritual healing. Most crystals have multiple types of healing properties," she said.

Crystals offer a holistic form of healing.

“Although I truly believe in the healing power of crystals, we still advise that our jewelry should be used along with medical/mental health treatment and their services when necessary,” she said.

HOW ARE THE CRYSTALS USED?

Crystals can be used by just holding them in your hands, said Randazzo.

“But I thought to myself that these crystals are so beautiful and would look amazing being worn as pieces of jewelry. So tried it and I loved how it turned out. Each piece is like a little piece of wearable, powerful art,” she said.

JEWELRY COLLECTION

Randazzo makes bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings. Some of the crystals she uses and their healing traits are:

Amazonite: This stone is said to heal the throat chakra, encouraging communication and supporting the thyroid, she said. “It strengthens the nervous system, dispelling worries, fears and anger. It helps to balance mood swings,” said Randazzo.

Sunstone: This stone is said to dispel fears. “It is a very energizing and cleansing stone. It is known to help decrease both stress and depression,” she said.

Tourmaline: This stone is said to purify energies and protect against negativity.

Moonstone: This stone is said to foster calm responses and reduce stress. “It brings hope, enhances feminine energies, sensitivity, intuition, and psychic abilities. It is also said to bring strong energies of abundance to one’s life. Moonstone is a stone of protection, especially during childbirth, pregnancy, and travel at sea,” said Randazzo.

Rose Quartz: This stone is said to be the foundation of universal love. “It restores trust and harmony in relationships, encouraging unconditional love. Rose Quartz purifies and opens the heart at all levels to promote love, self-love, friendship, deep inner healing and feelings of peace,” she said.
