Winners of the 13th GIT's World Jewelry Design Awards 2019 Announced - INSTORE MAG

(PRESS RELEASE) The Gem and Jewelry Institute of Thailand (Public Organization) or GIT has announced the winners of the 13th GIT’s World Jewelry Design Awards 2019. At the International Chanthaburi Gems and Jewelry Festival 2019 on December 4, 2019, GIT organized the award presentation ceremony and the fashion show of the jewelry collections which have been developed from the winning designs.

This year, the GIT’s 13th World Jewelry Design was held under the theme “Blue by Day, Green by Evening, Red by Night”, as blue, red, and green gemstones are highlighted as the main components of the designs. The contest was divided into two categories: ruby or blue sapphire, and peridot.

For the ruby or blue sapphire category, the winning design was called “The Power of Gems” by Mr. Jirawat Somsanar from Thailand.

“I was inspired by the shape of the bullet wood flower from ancient jewelry. By using two king gemstones: ruby and sapphire, this jewelry can be worn at any time of the day,” Mr. Somsanar explained.

The first runner-up was the designer of the work called “Rose in the Night” by Mr. Sippakorn Oudkom. Meanwhile, Ms. Wansa Phaerakkakit won the second runner-up for her design called “The Blue Macaw” as well as the Popular Design Award 2019 as she also received 300,000 votes from the public. The honorable mention in this category went to Ms. Attiya Ponsuk, the designer of “Blue Deco”.

For the peridot category, the winning piece was called “Grass in Evening” designed by Ms. Pawanrat Panjachai while the first runner-up was the design called “Green Calm” by Mr. Reyhaneh Ettehad from Iran.

“That moment when the evening sunlight touches the grass inspired me to create this design. The light yellow gemstones represent the evening sun, and the green gemstones represent the grass. The shape of the jewelry is inspired by the long oval shape and the sway of the grass as the wind blows,” Ms. Panjachai talked about her design.

Furthermore, Mr. Charnchai Duangrawa won the second runner-up for his design called “Bamboo” while the honorable mention was the design called “Salika” by Mr. Aumpol Traepornpanich.

The winners received cash prizes worth more than USD19,000 in total with honored trophies from HRH Princess Chulabhorn.

In this year’s contest, 660 designs were submitted, with 557 of these from Thailand and 103 from overseas.
