Arrests in Bethesda Jewelry Store Robbery - Virginia Connection Newspapers

Detectives from the Montgomery County Department of Police – Major Crimes Division have charged Kevin Joseph Harrington, age 36, of an unconfirmed address in Washington, D.C., for the Dec. 13 armed robbery of The Jewelry Exchange store located at 7747 Old Georgetown Road in Bethesda.

Derrick Lamont Graham, age 42, of an unconfirmed address, and Anthony Maurice Starr, age 49, of the 2700 block of Jasper Place in Southeast, Washington, D.C., were previously charged for this same armed robbery.

On Friday, Dec. 13, at approximately 5:46 p.m., three male suspects entered The Jewelry Exchange store. One suspect displayed a handgun and the males demanded jewelry. While two of the suspects obtained the jewelry, the third suspect acted as a lookout at the front door of the business. The suspects stole approximately 100 pieces of jewelry with a total worth of over $60,000.

On Dec. 17, the police department released surveillance video of the suspects to the media and public and asked for help in identifying them. Detectives received multiple tips identifying Graham as the suspect who displayed the handgun.

On Dec. 30, Graham was arrested in Arlington, Virginia, on unrelated charges and served with a Montgomery County arrest warrant charging him with armed robbery.

During this investigation, detectives also identified Starr as one of the suspects. On Jan. 8, Starr was arrested at his home on the strength of a Montgomery County arrest warrant charging him with armed robbery.

Detectives continued to investigate this armed robbery and received a tip from a resident who identified Harrington as the remaining suspect. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Harrington charging him for armed robbery. On Jan. 16, detectives arrested Harrington in Northwest, Washington D.C. Harrington remains in custody in Washington, D.C., pending extradition to Montgomery County.

The police department thanks the tipsters who provided information that led to the arrests of Graham, Starr, and Harrington.
