Thieves smashed their way into a south Forsyth jewelry store over the weekend, stealing valuables from the store and fleeing the scene in less than a minute, authorities say.
At about 4:15 a.m. on Saturday, thieves broke through the front glass door of Simon D. Jewelers on Peachtree Parkway in south Forsyth and stole necklaces, bracelets and earrings from a store display case before fleeing in a waiting vehicle.
According to Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Cpl. Doug Rainwater, only one display case in the store was targeted during the burglary and the entire burglary may have lasted less than a minute.
Because only one display at the very front of the store was targeted, authorities question whether the burglars knew what they were stealing, or if they were stealing the closest possible items after entering the store.
Investigators believe that the thieves brought a piece of concrete with them to carry out the burglary, and wore dark clothing and gloves during the incident.
No suspects have been identified in the incident so far, Rainwater said, but the incident is under investigation by sheriff’s office detectives.
